Sankt Andreasberg

Sankt Andreasberg Landscape Sankt Andreasberg Mountain Cattle Drive

Sankt Andreasberg is a hill top resort known for its clean air and hiking trails plus excellent winter sports. It is the highest mountain town in Harz and has the steepest roads of the region. It has many colourful wooden houses which help to maintain its charm. Sonnenberg which is just a few kilometres away falls within St Andreasberg and is in the heart of the National Park, and consist mainly of a few hotels and resturants.

One of the city's easily spotted landmarks is the yellow coloured church and bell tower. In 1920 it received its current three steel bells. These ring only for two causes: two bells with funerals and three bells call to service.

The town has excellent sports facilities and hire shops where you can hire bikes or monster scooters. There is an excellent summer toboggan run with a length of 550 meters and a drop of 130 meters, which can be reached by a chair lift. It is great fun for all ages. The town also has a mining museum "Pit Samson", plus some protected mountain meadows that due to their height and location have a vast collection of wild flowers.

In the winter there are 7 lifts in the region, two are double chair lifts. You can do snowboarding, alpine-skiing, cross-country skiing, snowtubing, snowshoeing, and tobogganing plus winter hiking. All equipment can be hired cheaply in town.
