Regenstein Castle is just three kilometers north of Blankenburg. Today only the ruins are visible of this once impregnable castle. Built on a 300 meter high sandstone outcrop the castle was first associated with the Count of Regenstein in 1162. Visitors can still see several internal rooms, carved into the rock, as well as the ruins of the keep. The castle is surrounded by remnants of a more recent fortress.
