Bad Lauterberg


The 800 year old town of Bad Lauterberg is situated in a deep valley in the Southern Harz, and is surrounded by steep rising mountains of between 460 meters to 700 meters. Bad Lauterberg is a recognised popular spa town. You will find over 3800 guests beds available from hotels, pensions and apartments.

The old town has romantic lanes and a nice shopping area, where you can walk mainly traffic free, while browsing the many small boutiques, coffee shops and ice cream parlours. You can also visit the weekly market at St Andrews Church. Once you get tired of shopping you can spend time at the Vitamar Centre with its many pools, wave machines and black hole water slides, and of course saunas and relaxing lounge's.

Just outside town is the attractive Oder Reservoir , where you can swim in the mountain lake. Situated around it are camping grounds for caravans, motor homes and tents. There is a small jetty and sailing club. If the mountain lake gets to cold then you can move to the hot springs of Kirchberg.

Due to the low altitude, alpine skiing is limited. There is a lift located on the slope Heibek, which is about 200 - 300 meters long. Cross-country skiing is the best option here. The cross country ski trail South Harz between Bad Lauterberg and Wieda which has around 47km of trails, an altitude of 450- 750 meters and is well sign posted.
