One of the world's most important collections of prints by Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956), which was once the private collection of Dr. Hermann Klumpp, who was friends with Feininger and his wife Julia. The biography of the German-American, Feininger is closely connected with the history of Europe, and his style influenced the Bauhaus teaching methods of many contemporary artists.
Mönchehaus Museum Goslar
The Mönchehaus Museum is a three-storey timber-frame building built in 1528. In these historic rooms you will be surprised by the various forms of contemporary art by world renowned artists. A special focus is the work by the yearly rewarded "Goslar Kaiser Ring". The Kaiser Ring is an art prize presented by the city of Goslar to outstanding artists of the present, and has been awarded annually since 1975.
In this historic villa from 1907, you will find an unusual combination of antique furniture from the 14th to 19th century, juxtaposed with modern art and graphic works contrasted against a Art Nouveau villa. Significant art exhibitions dedicated to famous artists, such as Dali, Picasso and contemporary artists such as Horst Janssen and Jorg Immendorf.
The Gleimhaus - Literary Museum and Research Centre is dedicated to the writer, poet and collector Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim (1719-1803). See the much admired collection of paintings described as "Temple of Friendship". With its historic library and its extensive collection of manuscripts the Gleimhaus is one of the oldest literary museums and a research center for the literary and cultural history of Germany.
The birth house of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock was built around 1560. Since 1899, the Klopstock House has presented a biographical/literary historical museum into the poet's life and work. His epic creation "The Messiah" and his lyrical work (odes, hymns, elegies, and songs) mark a turning point in the history of German poetry.
